Rectory Cottage
Rectory Cottage is in Heydon Road, close to the church (St swithun's) and the pub (The Pheasant).
It is thatched in long straw, which is traditional in this part of the country. It was rethatched at the end of 2018 and is not expected to need doing again until 2043 at the earliest. It is particalarly longer lasting than some because of the steep angle of the roof (rain runs off faster) and the lack of trees nearby (leaves don't get caught in the wire).
Like so many cottages of its age the 3 bedrooms upstairs are interconnected. The master bedroom is at one side at the top of the main stairs, with the bathroom on the other.
The second bedroom is accessed from the master bedroom or from the second staircase which rises from the lounge.
The third bedroom is accessed from the second bedroom and can easily be used as a bedroom, an office or a dressing room. One big advantage of this arrangement is that the rooms are quite large (by today's standards) and are very light, bedrooms 1 & 2 having windows both to the front and rear.
